Fire fighting on Mt. Santa Rosa
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Fire climbs a ridge threatening a Federal Aviation Administration facility June 17. Firefighters worked from 1 to 6 p.m. to contain and extinguish a wild fire that burned approximately 50 acres on Mt. Santa Rosa. The fire threatened two Department of Defense sites valued at $30 million, a commercial site valued at $1.4 million and 27 houses. A combined effort by the Guam Fire Department, Andersen AFB Fire Department, Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 aerial support, Navy Fire Department, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron, 554th RED HORSE Squadron totaling 68 people and 13 support vehicles contained the fire. Bronze Star
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Tech. Sgt. Ronald White, 36th CES explosive ordnance disposal flight team leader, receives a Bronze Star medal from Brig. Gen. Ruhlman during the May promotion ceremony here May 29. Sergeant White and his team were responsible handling many different categories of explosives in a combat environment, including finding and disarming improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnances and cataloguing and tracking weapons found in weapons caches. ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Capt. Raymond Kerr, 36th CES chief of construction management, receives a Bronze Star medal from Brig. Gen. Ruhlman during the May promotion ceremony here May 29. Captain Kerr and his joint-deployed team of more than 15 members took on the task of constructing the Afghan National Army’s and Afghan National Fleet’s facilities, including their bases and police stations. These facilities allowed the ability to bed down more than 700 Afghan forces.
