Sushi bar opens at commissary

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  Andersen's commissary recently received a new addition that some patrons in stateside have been enjoying when a new sushi bar opened here Sept. 13. 

The sushi bar provides Team Andersen members fresh sushi at low prices, according to patrons. 

"I've also been to the sushi bar on McChord Air Force Base. [The commissary] is usually cheaper, and the selection has more of the dishes I like to eat," said Staff Sgt. Joseph Baza, 36th Maintenance Squadron. 

Since the sushi bar opened for business, it has received an overwhelming amount of business, said store managers. In the two days prior to the grand opening, the sushi bar has doubled the sales of any commissary sushi bar in the United States in a two-day period. 

"I don't expect sales to continue at this rate, but even if they fall by half, we will still be the top-selling sushi bar," said Gary Whitmire, Andersen Commissary store director.
Not only does the sushi bar offer a variety of items for people on the go, people can also purchase party trays. 

Not only has the sushi bar seen sales sky rocket, it has also been met with rave reviews. 

"Every customer I've talked to has really liked the sushi bar. I've only heard complements about [it]," Whitmire said. "I'm really excited about [its future.] It's gone over well, we're going to keep the quality high as it is now and we'll see where it goes from here."
