Missing swimmer at Tarague presumed dead

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam – An Airman who went missing at Tarague Beach Nov. 21 was presumed dead after six days of search and recovery efforts with no evidence of death or remains. The Airman has been identified as Master Sgt. Greg Ramos from the 154th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard.

The cause of death is under investigation.

The Andersen Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam, Guam Fire Department and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 were alerted to a missing swimmer off Tarague Beach around midnight Nov. 21 and responded with an extensive search operation until Saturday.

“We are extremely saddened by this loss,” said Brig.Gen. Douglas Cox, the 36th Wing commander. “Our thoughts and prayers are with family, friends, team mates and everyone affected by this tragedy."

“The waters off Guam are beautiful and inviting but can be dangerous at times,” Cox continued. “We ask all Airmen, families, permanent and deployed members of Team Andersen to be cautious when engaging in any recreational water activities on island.”

Tarague, Serena and Scout Beach on Andersen AFB are closed until further notice.
