Child Care and Youth Programs Child and Youth Programs Sports Physicals Parents wishing to enroll a child in organized sporting camps or other sporting activities through the Youth Center, must ensure the child has a valid sports physical. Physicals must have been completed by a medical professional within the last 12 months, and a note with the doctor's office's contact information must be on file. For more information, contact the Youth Center at 366-3490 General Information The Department of Defense (DoD) and the Military Services take great pride in the variety and quality of services provided to children and youth on installations worldwide. While the services provided depend on the size of the location, the standards and quality of services are consistent and meet established regulations. The network has hundreds of locations worldwide serving over 1.3 million children. Child Development Centers (CDC) The Child Development Center is located in Building 1625 Santa Rosa Blvd and can be reached at 671-366-1601-4. Fax 671-366-3158. The Child Development Center is fully accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mon-Fri. Closed on Sundays and federal holidays. Programs Offered The CDC offers full-day care for children six weeks through kindergarten; part-day enrichment for children three through 5 years old and hourly care for all ages on a space available basis. Childcare for Permanent Chance of Station (PCS) is an Air Force Aid childcare program and is available for certain incoming and outgoing families. Contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 671-366-8136 for more information. Registration You will need to bring a current shot record to register your child(ren) in our programs. In addition, your current LES for you and your spouse (a copy will do) and/or a statement concerning other income you may have, is needed to enroll in our program. You may have your child(ren) placed on the waiting list prior to your arrival by having your sponsor drop by the center and complete a DD Form 2606. You will also need a copy of orders and the birth date of each child. You may also sign up by faxing a completed DD Form 2606, which is available at your current base's Child Development Program with a copy of your orders to us. Costs -- Fees and charges are based on total family income. Availability -- Spaces at the CDC are limited and certain age groups may have a waiting list. Waiting List -- Waiting periods vary from 2 weeks to a month depending on availability of slots. Respite Care -- Also known as "Give Parents a Break" is offered every 3rd Sat of the month from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Must have a referral from 1stSgt, Cdr or AFRC. A minimum of 8 families must be signed up for the program. Call the CDC for more information. Respite Care is a referral-based program funded by the Air Force Aid Society. The program is available upon referral by a medical or authorized agency. In-Home Childcare With in-home childcare, children receive their care in the private home of a certified provider living in government-owned or leased housing or in state-licensed homes in the community. Family child care provides accommodating child care arrangements, including night, weekend, and flexible hourly care for shift work. In-home childcare programs offer comparable care to a CDC. Providers must be certified by the DoD, and some seek additional accreditation from the National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC). Regulations limit the number of children that may be cared for at one time: no more than six children under age eight, and no more than two children under two years old. School Age Program (SAP) A Before/After School program for children who attend school, is offered by the School Age Program (SAP). Your position on the wait list depends on many factors that are at the discretion of the installation and may include your spouse's military status, the date you apply, deployment and your employment. If these factors change while you are on the wait list, your position will be changed accordingly, so it is important that you keep your information up-to-date. Childcare is not an entitleme nt, and fees are income-based. Fees throughout the child development system of care fall into fee ranges set by DoD. To apply for child care, fill out DD Form 2606, the Department of Defense Child Development Program Request for Care Record and return them to the Child and Youth Services Coordinator at your installation. The Department of Defense has a long history of providing positive youth programs that focus on alternative activities for youth during out-of-school hours. Today, DoD continues to be committed to youth by providing consistent guidance and stable and dynamic programs in more than 350 youth programs worldwide. DoD promotes positive youth development by designing programs to recognize the achievements of youth and by developing partnerships with other youth-serving organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H that offer a variety of resources. Programs for teens and pre-teens vary from one base to another, but are governed by a consistent DoD instruction. Programs prepare young people to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood through a coordinated, progressive series of activities and experiences that help them become socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively competent. Programs usually include physical fitness and sports, arts and recreation, training in leadership, life skills and career/volunteer opportunities, mentoring, intervention and support services. Family Child Care (FCC) An alternative to the Center-based Program is Family Child Care (FCC). Providers in this program are trained and licensed under the guidance of our Family Child Care Coordinator. Care is available for infants 6 weeks old to school age children. A current listing of licensed FDC homes is available at FCC homes and is always obtainable at the CDC, Youth Center (YC) and the Family Support Center. Family Child Care Providers are available on Andersen AFB. Hours of care are dependent on who is providing the care. The Airman & Family Readiness Center has a list of Family Child Care Providers. Andersen Youth Center Summer Camps Camps are open to children, ages 9-18. Registration should be completed one week before a camp's beginning date. Unless otherwise noted, registration for all camps cost $50. For more information or to register for any of the summer camps, call the youth center at 366-3490. Kinder/School Age Program Summer Event Schedule Throughout the summer, children who are enrolled in the Andersen Kinder/School Age Program will engage in creative and fun activities supporting the core learning areas of health and life skills, character and leadership, education and career, the arts, fitness and recreation, and technology. Guest speakers from the local community will come in and share their knowledge and specialized skill for the theme of each week. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in some hands on learning by attending fieldtrips related to each week's topic. For more information, contact the School Age Program at 366-3490.
