Congressional Delegation Visit
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is escorted through Tinian Hall by Master Sgt. Kelly R. Halferty, 36th Force Support Squadron first sergeant and Airman 1st Class Jacqueline J. Lee of the 36th Comptroller Squadron Feb. 17. Since they are from Missouri, Sergeant Halferty and Airman Lee were selected to give the Congressman Skelton tour through a dorm room. Orlando "Slider" Sanchez, 90th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron F-22 Raptor pilot, explains the F-22A Raptor’s capabilities to Seigo Kitamura, Japan’s Senior Vice Minister of Defense, during a site visit to here Feb. 14. During his tour, Mr. Kitamura received a mission briefing about the 36th Wing and the annual Cope North exercise. U.S. and Japanese forces completed the annual two-week bilateral exercise Feb. 13. ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Brig. Gen. Phil Ruhlman 36th Wing commander, greets Maj. Gen. Hideo Wakabayashi, Japan Air Self Defense Force Command Defense Plans and Operations Chief, who arrived here Feb. 12 for a two-day site visit of Andersen AFB. General Wakabayashi visited the base to learn about the 36th Wing’s mission and to visit with participants of the Cope North exercise that ended Feb. 13. Cope North is an annual bilateral exercise where U.S. and Japanese forces train to improve interoperability. More than 400 U.S. and JASDF members, and more than 20 aircraft, including JASDF F-2's, JASDF E-2C Hawkeyes, U.S. Navy EA-6B Prowlers, U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortresses and F-16 Falcons flew in the exercise. Team Andersen volunteers tear down safety hazard to protect base community
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Recently 12 Team Andersen volunteers from 36th Force Support Squadron, 554th RED HORSE Squadron, 36th Munitions Squadron, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron, 36th Logistics Readiness Squadron and youth center staff tore down a playground that has been a safety hazard for over five years. The playground, located near Chapel two, Outdoor Recreation and the Child Development Center, was damaged when Typhoons Chataan and Pongsona hit Guam in 2002. (Courtesy photo)
