117 ARS Kansas Coyotes B-52 Refueling Mission
A U.S. Air Force KC-135R Stratotanker refuels a B-52H Stratofortress over the Pacific Ocean June 26. The KC-135R from the 190th Air Refueling Wing at Forbes Field, Kan., can hold up to 200,000 pounds of fuel. Nearly all internal fuel can be pumped through the tanker's flying boom, which is the KC-135's primary fuel transfer method. A special shuttlecock-shaped drogue, attached to and trailing behind the flying boom, may be used to refuel aircraft fitted with probes. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Courtney Witt)
