Caitlin is the historian in her family and joined her mother, Liz Pianetta, to see their own family's history in Guam. This crash site would be where Capt. Carl Bauer, Caitlin's great uncle, perished in a tragedy involving engine troubles and bad weather. Matt Pianetta, nephew of Capt. Carl Bauer, stands amongst the debris at the B-29 "Colleen" crash site on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, April 11, 2025. Matt Pianetta, is the nephew of Capt. Bauer. Bauer was the captain of the B-29 "Colleen" and flew the plane for 13 successful bombing missions. Unfortunately, tragedy would occur on the 14th mission. A mixture of mechanical issues and bad weather forced the plane and its crew down into the northern cliffside jungles of Guam. 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the accident and Matt and his family came to the site to honor the fallen.
