Commentary: Andersen to Host Retiree Appreciation Day Published Oct. 28, 2015 By Retired Chief Master Sgt. David Ehlers Guam Retiree Activities Office ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- The 36th Wing will host the 13th Annual Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 7 at the Coral Reef Fitness Center gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Retiree Appreciation Day is an event to honor our retirees and to highlight their service to our nation. It also provides a great chance for retirees and their families to receive the latest information about benefits, services and support from both base and local agencies. More than 500 invitations have been sent out to the local area military retirees and survivors of military retirees. However, with almost 3,000 retirees on Guam, there are a lot who are not receiving the Retiree Activities Office updates, so we ask that you contact us to get added to the distribution list. Keeping up with what is going on in the military and how changes affect the retirees is sometimes difficult. Numerous on-and-off-base organizations, including legal, 36th Medical Group and U.S. Naval Hospital Guam agencies, TRICARE, WestCare Pacific, Guam Vet Center, Veterans Affairs and various veteran organizations will be present to share information and offer assistance on many of the programs retirees can take advantage of. Flu shots will also be available, courtesy of the 36th MDG. While the event will allow retirees to connect to helpful agencies and services for retirees and family members, there will also be ample opportunity to renew old acquaintances, make new friends and listen to guest speakers. The event is open to all retired military service members, their spouses, as well as widows and widowers of service branches. The RAO requests for interested individuals to sign-up to ensure a seat as space is limited. To register, visit www.guammrad.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org. When registering, retirees are asked to provide the following information: name, rank, branch of service, email, phone number and names of other family members attending. Retirees may also call 671-366-2574.
