Andersen's healthcare professionals know how important a child's health is to their ability to learn in a classroom environment.

Therefore, the annual Andersen Elementary School Health Screening for students in kindergarten through fifth grade took place Nov. 5 through 8.

Tests included depth perception, hearing ability, vision and color vision, said Senior Airman Koti Hawkins, a volunteer from the 36th Civil Engineering Squadron. Their weight and height were also documented.

Members of the 36th Medical Group Optometry Clinic, the AES school nurse and staff, along with 12 Team Andersen volunteers performed these tasks successfully.

The screening is to ensure that the children have to ability to absorb knowledge in the classrooms via boards and other means of instruction.

"This is a key part to a child's education," said Karen Cayce, an AES school nurse. "We simply want to give them the best chance possible to succeed at their education."
