Senior leadership celebrates Airmen's dedication

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - --  More than 500 Airmen attended the Junior Enlisted Appreciation Day celebration held Oct. 9 at Tarague Beach pavilion here.

The Andersen Top Three organization hosted the event.

"We hosted the event to let them know how much we care about them and appreciate them", said Chief Master Sgt. Tim Byrd, 36th Maintenance Group superintendent.

Airmen between the ranks of E-1 through E-6 were invited to attend the event to recognize them for all their hard work and dedication to the 36th Wing throughout the year.

"There's no way we can accomplish the mission without our junior enlisted and we need to take every opportunity we have to make sure we take care of them," explained Chief Master Sgt. Dewayne Colston, 20th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit chief.

During the event Airmen were able to enjoy food prepared by the first sergeants and served by the chief master sergeants while witnessing demonstrations from the 36th Security Forces Squadron military working dogs and combat arms training and maintenance.

Some Airmen also competed in a volleyball tournament for the opportunity to face the winner of the SNCO bracket.

"I came out to mingle and to get to know my fellow junior enlisted members", explain Senior Airman Patty Mann, 36th Force Support Squadron outbound assignments clerk.

The event was an alternate duty location for Airmen. Instead of spending their Friday afternoon at work, non-mission essential Airmen were able to enjoy the festivities at the beach.

"The committee wanted to choose a place that represented what we were trying to accomplish, and that was to give our folks a nice place to rest and relax. What a better place than Tarague?" explained Master Sgt. Jamie Clancey, event coordinator and 644th Combat Communications Squadron first sergeant.
