Andersen to offer tax kiosk Published Jan. 28, 2016 By Senior Airman Cierra Presentado 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- The Andersen legal office is offering tax services through self-service computer kiosks, allowing military members to file their taxes through a software program. The kiosks replace the traditional tax center. Through the kiosks customers can log into a tax preparation software program at no charge. The program is designed to allow individuals the opportunity to learn to do their own tax returns with minimal assistance. Single, married or divorce members with or without dependents that have no additional required documents will only need a form W-2 and social security cards for all dependents. “This is the first year we are utilizing a kiosk for service members to use,” said Tech. Sgt. Demuro Brown, 36th Wing civil law paralegal. “The program is great because like many online tax services, it walks you through in steps, and if you have questions we have legal office personnel here to answer them.” This year the kiosk will be available by appointment to all Active-Duty service members who are stationed at Andersen AFB and their dependents, and members of the Guard or Reserve in title 10 status. Deploying Airmen will have priority. Appointments will be made available to retirees on selected Saturdays during the tax season beginning Feb. 27 from 9a.m. to 12p.m. “It is important for service members to know that legal office personnel are only available to answer questions related to tax returns that do not involve complex estate matters,” Brown said. “With simple tax returns you would normally just need your form W-2 and if you have dependents you would need their social security cards for each claimed dependent and any other supporting documents. Members need to remember to bring all of their needed documents as they only have one hour to utilize the kiosk, and are free to contact the legal office if they have any questions as to what documents are required. If they forget a document, they can always reschedule,” Brown said. “With the limited space that the kiosks are located, we recommend the main filer come alone, or with the filer’s spouse.” Service members are able to access their tax forms through the MyPay website on the Air Force portal. “I’m excited about the new system this year; folks are going to have the personal satisfaction of preparing their own taxes and be able to ask questions if help is needed,” he said. Appointments can be made Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The opening date for the tax center is Feb 1.
