Sixty-three Airmen from the 36th Civil Engineer Squadron spent the past three weeks preparing for Silver Flag Class 13-04, an eight-day contingency operation training exercise at Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Preparations for the exercise include reviewing cyber-based training, self-aid and buddy care; pre-attack, trans-attack, and post-attack responses; unexploded ordnance reporting; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive training.

"With Silver Flag coming up, we want to provide our Airmen with all the tools necessary to succeed," said Tech Sgt. Jeffery Womack, 36 CES.

Silver Flag provides critical contingency-oriented qualification skills to Airmen in key positions throughout civil engineer units, placing emphasis on team and individual qualification, preparing expeditionary Airmen for worldwide deployments.

During the course, civil engineer members will focus on building and maintaining bare-base operations at a forward-deployed location.

During this training, they will also be inspected by the Pacific Air Forces Command Inspector General on their wartime operations. The inspector general will specifically be inspecting the students' airfield damage repair, reverse osmosis water purification unit and rapid utility repair kit operations, which will be included in the 36th Wing final combined unit inspection report.

"During the week, students go through rigorous training. This gives Airmen time to understand their wartime roles and builds trust with each other. By the time the exercise day arrives, everyone is one cohesive team." said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher Vansile, 36th CES superintendent.

All civil engineer Airmen must go through the Silver Flag exercise every 36 months, which is held at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., or Kadena Air Base, Japan.
