North Korea launches ballistic missile; No immediate threat to Guam Published Nov. 28, 2017 Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense GUAM - The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), and federal and military partners, continue to monitor the events surrounding North Korea including recent reports of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) launch at an eastward trajectory around 4:20 a.m. (ChST). The launch was detected out of Sain Ni, North Korea and traveled about 1,000km (650 miles) on a lofted trajectory before landing in the Sea of Japan, over 200km from the Japan coast. Initial assessments state the reported ICBM was in the air for over 50 minutes. The launch was determined not to be a threat to Guam or the Marianas. GHS/OCD, working with military and federal partners, was notified immediately. There is no confirmation, whether the launch was considered successful. GHS/OCD, with MRFC and federal and military partners will continue to monitor the situation. The threat level remains the same and GHS/OCD continue normal operations. “After two months of no missile activity out of North Korea, this morning’s launch reminds us to keep emergency plans updated and be prepared for any scenario,” stated George Charfauros, Guam Homeland Security Advisor. “Our office will continue to work closely with our military and federal partners and will notify the community if there are changes or updates.
