ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Brig. Gen. Phil Ruhlman, 36th Wing commander, honors Tech. Sgt. Michael Allen, 36th Contracting Squadron construction contracting officer, after presenting him with a Bronze Star Medal in a ceremony at the base theater here Nov 26. Sergeant Allen, a 13-year Air Force veteran, was awarded the BSM for his service while deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, from Jan. 1 to June 28, 2008. Contracts the sergeant was responsible for improved Iraqi Army response times for counter insurgency operations in Mosul, provided Iraqi commanders infrastructure and resources to hone unit combat skills and bolstered the Ministry of Defense’s self-sufficiency efforts, according to the citation. The citation also recognized Sergeant Allen’s life-saving actions following a rocket attack where he directed rescue efforts and carried out wounded personnel for medical attention. The BSM is awarded to Airmen who have distinguished themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement or service not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.
