Exercise Polar Lightning

Airman 1st Class Joshua Silva launches a B-2 Spirit from the 509th Bomb Wing, 13th Bomb Squadron Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., March 13, during a Polar Lightning exercise originating at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Polar Lightning missions are flown to showcase the global reach and power of the U.S. bomber force and at the same time the sorties give aircrews an incredible opportunity to hone their skills. The long-range, strategic bombers are part of the continuous rotating bomber presence deployed to Andersen. The rotating bomber units promote security and stability in the region as well as provide unique aircrew training opportunities. Airman Silva is deployed to Andersen and assigned to the 36th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron (U.S. Air Force photo/ Master Sgt. Kevin J. Gruenwald) released
