Fire fighting on Mt. Santa Rosa
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Staff Sgt. William Pease and Eric Masur, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters, work their way through the dense brush to more effectively target the fire working its way up the ridge June 17. Firefighters worked from 1 to 6 p.m. to contain and extinguish a wild fire that burned approximately 50 acres on Mt. Santa Rosa. The fire threatened two Department of Defense sites valued at $30 million, a commercial site valued at $1.4 million and 27 houses. A combined effort by the Guam Fire Department, Andersen AFB Fire Department, Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 aerial support, Navy Fire Department, 36th Civil Engineer and the 554th RED HORSE Squadron totaling 68 people and 13 support vehicles contained the fire.
