Denim Day is an international awareness day observed annually that began following an Italian Supreme Court decision in 1998 to overturn a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. The argument was that the offender couldn't have removed the victim's jeans without her help so she must have consented to sex. The wearing of jeans on Denim Day, April 25 this year served as a visible means of supporting the effort to end sexual violence. Those participating in Denim Day were asked to wear their jeans with a Sexual Assault Awareness Month T-shirt which was on sale throughout April.
