Team Andersen promotes sexual assault awareness in April

April is national Sexual Assault Awareness Month and participation is encouraged as the 36th Wing endeavors to put an end to sexual violence.

For those seeking to join the nation in its fight against sexual assault and misconduct, Team Andersen is scheduled to host a myriad of events promoting public education and prevention.

· April 4 - The SAAM 5K: 6 a.m. show time, 6:30 a.m. go time. Runners will assemble at the Palm Tree Golf Course driving range prior to beginning. Prizes will be awarded to the first 50 finishers.

· April 10, 11 and 12 - SAAM information fair: sexual assault prevention and response and family advocacy personnel will be at the Base Exchange here from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Materials pertaining to sexual assault awareness and child abuse prevention will be provided and patrons will receive SAPR promotional items in addition to complementary baked goods.

· April 17 -A self defense class will be conducted for key spouses at the small Hot Spot gym here at 5 p.m.

· April 18 -A self defense class will be conducted for individuals ages 14 and older at the small Hot Spot gym at 5:30 p.m.

· April 20 - Denim Day: Alternate uniform of the day for Team Andersen members, to include Andersen Elementary and Middle School students, will be jeans and a t-shirt; SAAM t-shirts are encouraged.

· April 20 - From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the Top of the Rock will host a family event for SAAM and child abuse awareness. The event will feature a cupcake walk, awareness art projects and Denim Day fashion show.

· April 26 - A self defense class will be conducted for Hearts Apart members from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the large Hot Spot gym. Any spouse or child of a deployed member may participate.
