AtHoc is a network-centric emergency mass-notification system used at Andersen that is key in notifying installation personnel in the event of an emergency.

The system was developed to help mitigate critical situations and has recently been helpful in notifying installation personnel during all types of emergencies.

AtHoc allows an alert to be received through communication mediums including home phone, mobile, text, email or computer pop-up and will have a specific set of instructions to respond. Users should read the entire alert and/or listen to the entire message then respond accordingly.

"The system is capable of notifying personnel from a single, centralized, web-based program within minutes of an emergency," said Tech. Sgt. Bryan Rodvold, 36th Wing Command Post noncommissioned officer in charge of status of resources and training system. "Notification types range from force-protection condition changes, anti-terror warnings or natural disaster alerts for approaching typhoons, tsunamis or other emergency situations."

One of the critical tools provided by the system is personnel accountability. This is accomplished by compiling a list of personnel who were notified, when they were notified, and whether those personnel acknowledged the notification.

"This is a great tool that allows the wing commander to get emergency and other urgent information to the base populace," said Tech. Sgt. Tracy Sharp, 36 WG/CP NCOIC of console operations. "The system is great but only works if everyone updates their information."

A member must use the purple AtHoc icon to input his or her information into the system in order to receive these notifications.

This icon is located on their Department of Defense computer toolbar, left of the clock in the lower right-hand corner. Right-click on the icon, then select "Update My Info," then update your data in the system.
