Many Team Andersen workers face challenges finding available meal options due to off-hour work shifts, but they do have an option. A team of joint service members provide nutritional food to hungry service members on a daily basis at the 36th Force Support Squadron Skyline Flight Kitchen around the clock, 365 days a year.

The flight kitchen prepares approximately 700 boxed lunches and 1,000 hot meals per week. The kitchen usually caters to flightline staff, including maintenance Airmen, flightcrews, emergency responders and security forces. However, people waiting for space available travel, or anyone normally authorized to eat in the dining facility can also stop by for a bite to eat.

"We are customer service driven, so we have to do our best to provide the most excellent customer service possible," said Tech. Sgt. Cynthia Fejaran, 254th Guam Air National Guard facility manager.

The kitchen supports day-to-day operations, exercises and units that deploy here. The staff also prepares and serves meals to alerted flightcrews with short turnaround time.

The flight kitchen staff is currently composed of five Air National Guard Airmen, three Airmen permanently assigned to Andersen AFB and one Soldier. However, the staff changes on a regular basis due to the units that visit here.

During major events, like exercises that include allied nations, the kitchen's workload can spike with upward of 1,300 meals going out in one day. At the same time, staff can jump to 12 service members working around the clock.

"We get a lot of help in the kitchen during exercises especially," said Staff Sgt. Richard Allbee, 36th Force Support Squadron food services supervisor. "The extra help is definitely appreciated with all the people constantly coming through during exercises like Cope North."

The flight kitchen staff, regardless of the uniform the staff wears, comes together to form a cohesive team, ensuring meals get out to the service members to help them complete the mission.

"We share stories and poke fun at the other branches but we are one big happy family. All of our differences build character," Fejaran said.

The flight kitchen is located next to the 734th Air Mobility Squadron passenger terminal. For more information about the Skyline Flight Kitchen, call 366-5201.
