36th CES environmental flight to host 'America Recycles Day' Published Nov. 5, 2012 36th Civil Engineering Squadron environmental flight ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- The 36th Civil Engineering Squadron environmental flight is scheduled to host "America Recycles Day" at the main Base Exchange here, Nov. 15. America Recycles Day is nationally recognized as a day devoted to promoting recycling programs in the United States. The event was first established in 1997 and has increased in participation as more people commit to preserving the Earth's resources through recycling. The 36th CES environmental flight will have games available for the public to enjoy, as well as displays of eco-friendly and recyclable products. The Base Exchange offers a five-cent discount for every reusable bag brought in and used by customers. Additionally, 36th CES environmental flight will have "Take the Pledge" forms available. Customers who fill out these forms pledge to learn more about recyclable materials and pledge to reduce personal waste by recycling. According to www.americarecyclesday.org, approximately 7,200 people nationwide have signed the pledge since 2011. For this year's event, the environmental flight's goal is 50 pledges, which will be submitted online to the America Recycles Day website. To promote recycling all year, Team Andersen offers recycling services on base and collects cardboard, aluminum, mixed paper, plastics and glass. Military family housing residents may place their recyclables in their recycle bin next to their green trash receptacle on trash-pickup day. There are also drop-off locations for recyclables at the Arc Light Recycling Center just inside the main gate and recycling dumpsters across the base. America Recycles Day is a day to make recycling bigger and better, 365 days a year. Environmental Stewardship is not a job; it is a way of life.
