Training center prepares Airmen for deployment

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  The Pacific Regional Training Center at Andersen prepares security forces Airmen for deployments downrange.

The PRTC is designed to enhance basic skill sets, as well as teach advanced tactics that were not taught in technical school or at their home station.

"This training is important because it exposes students to current enemy tactics in a deployed environment and teaches them how to react in certain situations," said Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Graves, 736th Security Forces Squadron PRTC instructor.

The 17-day class teaches students everything from communicating in a convoy to reacting to the presence of improvised explosive devices.

"As one of the lead field supervisors, I make sure our Airmen are prepared to teach all skill sets our students need to learn," said Tech. Sgt. Nicolas Sanders, 736th SFS PRTC instructor. "They need to be proficient in these skills in order to keep themselves out of harm's way and ready to complete the mission."

The PRTC serves as a learning environment for not only the students, but instructors as well.

"This has been the most rewarding three years of my Air Force career," said Sergeant Sanders. "I learned how to teach and prepare other Airmen and leaders for what lies ahead of them."

The PRTC graduates seven classes a year with a cumulative number of approximately 400 students who now have the skill set to successfully recognize and overcome threats in deployed locations.
