Andersen hosts annual talent show

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  Members of Team Andersen hosted the annual "U got talent" show Oct. 23 at the Hot Spot here.

First place was taken by Danielle Stephenson with her vocal performance, closely followed in second place by Hannah Cavazos' gymnastics routine.

"Events like this bring family-oriented competition and restore a sense of bonding," said Tech. Sgt. Glenn Garcia, 36th Force Support Squadron community activities NCO in charge. "It's good family fun, and allows military members and their families to express themselves outside their military or dependant role."

The talent show is conducted Air Force-wide, where each base's winners compete for the top spot.

Video of each installation's First and Second place winners are then sent to the Air Force Entertainment Office for Air Force-level judging.

The show consisted of seven performances by dependents, made up of six vocal acts and one gymnastics routine.

According to Air Force Entertainment, the goal of the "U got talent" contest is to develop creative expression and appreciation of the arts in the participants and provide an opportunity for families to participate together and acknowledge the best talent in the Air Force.

"It is yet another opportunity to bring families together in our community," said Master Sgt. Kaluunda Taylor, 36th Force Support Squadron community services flight chief. "It also goes to show how diverse and unique our families are."

Air Force-level winners in each category will be awarded $500 and select electronic equipment as prizes. They will also receive a professional recording of their act and be a part of the U Got Talent compilation video that will be distributed Air Force-Wide.

"Andersen looks forward to annual events like this because they bring the base together and that's important to families stationed overseas," said Taylor. "Community activities have a special way of making us all feel more at home."
