The 36th Force Support Squadron recently opened Sunset Cove, a new and unique venue to enhance the Andersen experience for the base's team members.

The new facility, located adjacent to the Sunrise Conference Center, offers scenic views of the Pacific Ocean as well as the sunsets it is named for. It opens at 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday with dining hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Closing time is based on customer participation, according to FSS officials.

"Sunset Cove was established to offer an additional venue for customers to take advantage of a beautiful location and socialize," said Maj. Alonzo Bray, Jr., 36th FSS commander. "(It) is open to all community members 18 and over -- 21 and over to consume alcohol -- and offers a full-service bar, a food menu as well as the option of ordering a pub dinner on the patio."

In addition to the menu options, which include a seafood special on Fridays and steak dinner on Saturdays, Sunset Cove also features two outdoor and one indoor billiard tables, a dart board, outdoor seating and is available for event catering.

Sunset Cove also serves as a great environment for information exchanges across all ranks and functional communities, Bray added.

The location has hosted several previous functions throughout the years, from a locker room for a pool previously closed due to earthquake damage, a Greek restaurant, a locker room for the golf course to its current iteration as Sunset Cove.

"The concept was developed in May and we opened Sept. 27 with a grand opening on Oct. 4," Bray said. "The 36th Civil Engineer Squadron and 36th FSS logistics team completed the renovations."

Bray noted the FSS organization works continuously to enhance and improve serving and living on Andersen for all base members.

"Providing and improving the available morale, welfare and recreation venues and activities for Team Andersen is our No. 1 priority," he said. "The installation as a whole depends on the quality programs we provide and we take pride in meeting that responsibility every day."
