Andersen shakes up inspection process Published March 16, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Mariah Haddenham 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Airmen assigned to the 36th Wing Inspector General's office are working hard to implement the new Air Force Inspection System and Commander's Inspection Program. The Commander's Inspection Program evaluates four major graded areas: management of resources, leading people, improving the unit and executing the mission. The office is made up of two sections, Inspections and Complaints Resolution. Both work together to correct and resolve issues that can affect performance during daily operations, training or exercises. Additionally the sections strive to be interactive with units by taking a proactive approach to communicating with Team Andersen. The goal for the inspections section is to provide a comprehensive inspection and readiness program for the 36th Wing by continuously validating the self-assessment program using the new management internal control toolset, according to Capt. Amanda Altman, 36th WG/IG Director of Inspections. "Our role is to focus on work processes so that being 'ready for an inspection' is just the natural byproduct of commanders' achieving their mission readiness rates," Altman said. They also plan and execute realistic and focused exercises in order to assess, enhance and report the 36th Wing's readiness, effectiveness and state of discipline to execute the mission. "The inspection team works very hard to create value-added exercises for the wing to show commander's whether or not they can accomplish their mission while highlighting any possible limiting factors," said Altman. "Under the new inspection system, units do not have to focus on inspection preparation, it's designed so that if you are doing the mission right, making sure your units are ready and personnel are taken care of then everything else will fall into place." According to their mission statement, the complaints resolution section aims to ensure the existence of viable, responsive complaints resolution and fraud, waste and abuse programs. They enforce actions characterized by integrity, fairness, and impartiality while serving as the eyes and ears of the 36th Wing commander by maintaining vigilance for potential systematic issues or areas of concern. "Despite the Complaints Resolution and Inspections sections having two distinctive missions, both are integral to the success of the Commander's Inspection Program," said Capt. Musette Willis, 36th Wing IG Director of Complaints Resolution. "The complaints resolution section conducts regular unit visits to assess systemic morale, or other issues that could potentially affect the major graded areas or work environment. Our job helps Airmen resolve their issues so that they can keep their minds focused on the mission," Willis said. The Inspector General Team works together to ensure that the 36th Wing can execute its mission while maintaining a high level of leadership effectiveness, military discipline and a positive command climate to execute operations.
