Active-duty, retired and civilian Airmen came together to celebrate the 14th annual Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 7 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

More than 115 retirees and family members participated in events held throughout the day, which included briefings from TRICARE representatives, 36th Medical Group members and the base historian. The day also included information booths, raffles, a luncheon and entertainment.

"This year's turnout was great, we really appreciate all of the volunteers coming out on their Saturday to help us out," said retired Chief Master Sgt. David Ehlers, 36th Wing Guam Retiree Activities Office director. "They have been fantastic. Next year we hope more retirees attend the event. There is a lot of good information available to them."

Retirees from every branch of the military perused information booths and learned about the agencies that help retirees and their families. For some, it wasn't their first retiree appreciation day.

"I've been going to these for about four years," said retired Senior Master Sgt. Michael Williams. "This is a great opportunity for retirees to come out and get information on their benefits. It's a really important program that helps out retirees, we can receive flu shots or renew our identification cards as well as check out informational booths and briefings they give out."

Some retirees may feel hesitant when seeking help with veterans' affairs, which is one of the reasons the Guam Retirees Activities Office organizes the Retiree Appreciation Day. The purpose of the recurring event is to provide retirees an accessible one-stop shop to meet all of their needs and reconnect with veteran services.
