Units prepare for UCI excellence

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  The 36th Wing commander designated March 9 as Unit Compliance Inspection Preparation Day. 

All base units spent the day accomplishing paperwork, reviewing checklists and making sure their Airmen performed and documented tasks according to Air Force instructions. 

"The UCI will evaluate the Wing's ability to assess each unit's adherence to Air Force and Pacific Air Forces policy and directives to include how to respond to an Emergency Management Exercise," said Tech. Sgt. Areda Sermons, 36th Wing Inspector General NCOIC of inspections. 

The 36th Munitions Squadron, spent the day scrutinizing career field education training plans to ensure all on-the-job training was conducted in accordance with the Air Force Instruction. They also performed depth checks for munitions earth covered storage structures, since they are required to maintain a 24-inch covering. 

Staff Sgt. Joshua Huddleston, 36th MUNS storage crew chief, said, "It's important to make sure the daily operations are being done within regulations while maintaining the Air Force mission at Andersen." 

The 36th Mobility Response Squadron was also busy on UCI Preparation Day. 

"Our intent for UCI Prep Day was to review and re-evaluate checklists," said Tech. Sgt. Abel Saenz, load/boom for MRS operations. "We made sure checklists were up to date. We also reviewed our records management system by having a meeting with the chiefs of records. We went over requirements and met with record custodians to make sure file plans were up to date." 

The UCI inspection will be conducted by Pacific Air Force Headquarters May 14 through 18 by 110 inspectors. 

The UCI is based on a five-tier inspection rating. The ratings are Outstanding, Excellent, Satisfactory, Marginal and Unsatisfactory. 

The squadron-level is normally the lowest organization that will receive a rating. On a case-by-case basis, flights or work centers may be rated and rolled up into an overall squadron rating. Squadron ratings are rolled up to the group level. 

Wing Staff, Group, Common Core Compliance Areas, Special Interest Items, and EME ratings are then rolled up to determine an overall wing or unit rating.
