AMS sends SVS packing, 20-5

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  The 734th Air Mobility Squadron sends 36th Services Squadron packing, 20-5.
When the first inning was over between the 734 AMS and the 36 SVS, it looked to be an exciting offensive softball clinic as the 36 SVS was on top 4-2. 

Apparently, the Services team didn't get the memo as their offense stalled the rest of the way, while the AMS' went into overdrive, scoring 18 runs the next three innings to end the game due to the mercy rule 20-5. 

"Everyone was hitting the ball, and we kept our errors to a minimum," said player coach Chad Thomas. "We talk about having explosive bats and winning every inning." 

If the Services team's offense didn't show up, its fielding never got out of bed as multiple errors in both the outfield and infield allowed 36 AMS base runners to score and keep its inning alive time after time. 

Even though the game didn't feature the most sound fielding on either side, it was entertaining nevertheless. 

In the top of the second, 36 SVS batter Robert Coleman hit a line drive to the outfield that brought home Tone Cruz and Marc Morin, and thanks to an overthrown ball over the AMS third baseman's head, Coleman rounded the bases to score an inside-the-park homerun, putting Services up 5-4. 

While the play gave the Services team reason to celebrate, the 36 AMS team responded with its bats. 

In the bottom of the third inning, Thomas tripled to left field due to a bobbled catch by the fielder. That play opened the 36 AMS' floodgates. The next 10 AMS batters were able to reach base with the highlight being Joe Hernandez's three-run blast to center field. After the damage was done, the 36 AMS had a commanding 17-5 lead. 

With the game already out of hand in the top of the fourth, the Services batters couldn't muster a comeback as Jonathon Payton flied out to start and Cruz and Morin both grounded out.
With their foe against the ropes, the AMS went in for the kill as Richard Bartlett singled to drive in Charles Thompson to finish the game 20-5. 

AMS batters Thomas and Phil Burnett hit a two-run and three-run homerun, respectively.
With the win, the 36 AMS holds an impressive 4-0 record.
