The health and wellness center provided a health fair for active duty members and their dependants Aug. 15 at the fitness center. The array of booths set up varied from the family advocacy program, immunizations to massage therapy.

According to Tech. Sgt. Jason Herman, HAWC noncommissioned officer in charge, the purpose of the health fair is to get information out to the public about all the different types of services available to meet everyone's healthcare concerns.

Approximately 150 people attended the health fair, said Sergeant Herman.
"It's a definitive aspect of your military career," he said.

Benji Montelya, massage therapist on Andersen, said that having a routine massage helps to relieve pain and tension.

"It helps you relax and it reduces a lot of stress so you're able to work better," she said adding that when Airmen are relaxed, they can better focus more on the mission.

The 36th Medical Group offered booths to remind Airman and family members the importance of taking care of their eyes and teeth.

Capt. Chad Simpson, an optometrist from the 36th Medical Group, said that many medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer, can be seen from behind the eye.

"It truly is a window to your overall health," he said.

Senior Airman Summer Arnold, a dental technician from the 36th MDG, expressed her feelings on maintaining overall oral health care.

"Your mouth is the gateway to all kinds of bacteria that could lead to other serious problems," she said. She said most problems can be avoided through routine care.

Airman 1st Class Connecticut Wilson, a services journeyman from the 36th Services Squadron, who attended the health fair said that all the booths offered great information, but she loved the massage the best.

"It was a stress relief experience for me," she said. "I'd definitely go back and pay for the full hour."
