Andersen Airmen receive nonjudicial punishment

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  During August, five Andersen Airmen received nonjudicial punishment. The circumstances of the cases are as follows: 

An airman first class from the 36th Munitions Squadron wrongfully used Percocet and codeine phosphate on several occasions, in violation of Article 112a of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. For this action, the Airman received a suspended reduction to the rank of airman, 45 days extra duty and a reprimand. 

An airman first class from the 36th Communications Squadron arrived late to physical training, in violation of Article 86, UCMJ. For this action, the Airman received a suspended reduction to the rank of airman, 20 days extra duty and a reprimand. 

An airman first class from the 36th Medical Operations Squadron arrived to work late and was incapacitated to perform his duties at work by previously overindulging in alcohol, in violation of Articles 86 and 134, UCMJ. For this action, the Airman received a reduction to the rank of airman, 14 days extra duty, 14 days restriction to Andersen and a reprimand. 

An airman first class from the 36th Security Forces Squadron was drunk and disorderly and assaulted a fellow Airman in his squadron, in violation of Article 134, UCMJ. For this action, the Airman received a reduction to the rank of airman. 

An Airman from 36 SFS wrongfully aimed his firearm at an Airman in his squadron and wrongfully drew his firearm on an Airman in his squadron on another occasion, in violation of Article 92, UCMJ. For this action, the Airman received a suspended reduction to the rank of airman basic and forfeiture of $303 pay. 

Punishment under Article 15 of the UCMJ, otherwise known as nonjudicial punishment, is action by a servicemember's commander in response to suspected violations of the UCMJ. The commander determines if the servicemember committed the offense and, if so, imposes appropriate punishment. Accepting procedures under Article 15 is a choice of forum and not an admission of guilt. Servicemembers always have the option to turn down Article 15 proceedings and demand to be tried by court-martial.
