Spouses need to be kept informed about the mission their respective partners are participating in.

Andersen recognizes this fact and helps to provide this information through spouses tours.

This year's Senior Spouses Orientation occurred Sept. 24. The orientation included a briefing from the base commander, Brig. Gen. Doug Owens, in which he explained Team Andersen's mission in detail to the spouses in attendance.

"We learned about the mission of Andersen AFB, and General Owens explained what the Andersen AFB future was going to be like with the build-up of Marines and their families," said Deborah Riff, a spouse who went on the orientation.

The orientation also included a base tour of several sites. These sites included the tower, static displays of a B-52, F-16 and KC-135, the USDA and construction sites of Northwest field.

Mrs. Riff said she especially enjoyed the tour of the flight line and learning about the aircraft.

"We had the privilege to go up the Control Tower and out on the cat walk to see the beautiful view of Andersen," she said.  "We ended the tour by eating at the dining facility."

Most spouses enjoyed the tour and found it very informational and helpful, said Staff Sgt. Desmond Passi, 36th Wing Protocol.

Mrs. Riff said she enjoyed the orientation.

"I am grateful that General Owens took his time to help us learn more about Andersen AFB," said Mrs. Riff.
