The new commander of the 644th Combat Communications Squadron arrived on Andersen Oct. 27.

"It is an exciting time for deployable communications within the Pacific AOR (area of responsibility) and we are extremely happy to be in the middle of it," said Maj. Roger Vrooman, 644th CBCS commander.

Major Vrooman's last assignment was at the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security Affairs. This is his first assignment as a squadron commander in the Air Force.

"It is an awesome opportunity to re-activate the 644th CBCS," said Major Vrooman. "Although this will be a reactivation, all of the squadron programs will have to be re-started. Some from scratch and others will be adopted from best practices Air Force-wide."

The 644th CBCS will participate in a reactivation ceremony scheduled for mid-January 2008.

Major Vrooman is here with his wife, Tass, and their four-year-old son, Fame.

"Our first week here has been great," he said. "We love the weather, and we appreciate Team Andersen's welcome. It truly has been a smooth transition."
