The new Army and Air Force Exchange Service's base exchange currently being built on Andersen is now 40 percent complete.

"We're still on schedule to open up in August of September of 2008," said Flordeliza Payton, AAFES general manager.  "That is when our forecasted grand opening will take place."

The $48 million project is underway.  All the flooring has been completed.  Within the next week, all the panels, or walls, will be put up.  By the second week of December, the builders will have already begun working on the roof.  Next, they will work on the stockroom.

The current Andersen BX is 26,000 sq ft, but without even considering the size of the stockroom or food court, the retail side alone of the new BX will be 85,000 sq ft.

This will be a one-stop shop with a wider selection of food and clothing.  Inside, customers can look forward to having a Popeyes, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Charlie's Steakery, Subway and even the full range of Baskin Robin's ice cream flavors.  Also included are a spa and the optical, barber and beauty shops.

"We are looking forward to it, and we're excited that around this time next year we will be in the new store," said Ms. Payton.
