Network 5/6 breaks the ice

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  Network 5/6 held an Icebreaker April 4 at Arc Light Memorial, providing food, drinks, a DJ and an opportunity for potential members to sign up for the Air Force organization.

"The Icebreaker was a time for anyone to come out and see what this organization is all about," said Technical Sergeant Jason Herman, 36th Medical Group, Network 5/6 Vice President. "Potential members will have the opportunity to officially join this organization. Many military members came out to support their peers who are trying to improve the base leadership among our respective tier, through Network 5/6."

The purpose of the organization is to enhance and maintain the camaraderie, esprit de corps, and prestige of the noncommissioned officer, while promoting a spirit of unity and honor among all enlisted personnel.

"The group is collectively, and individually, a role model for the development and mentorship of enlisted Airmen," said Tech. Sgt. Daniel Alvarado, 36th Civil Engineering Squadron, President of Network 5/6. "The group will positively impact the wing and its mission by providing a forum for the junior NCO tier."

Network 5/6 also dedicates part of their time to help out Team Andersen. The organization has done volunteer work for: the Linebacker II Ceremony, End of Month Promotion Ceremonies, AADD, Professional Development Seminars, to include FTAC Briefings and the staff and technical sergeant promotion party.

According to Sergeant Herman, the general membership meetings are held every last Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. either at the Top of the Rock or the Hot Spot. Every squadron is encouraged to have a representative, but the meetings are open to all E-5's, E-5 selects, and E-6's.

"As President of the Network 5/6, I enjoy meeting new people at every meeting," said Sergeant Alvarado. "The general meetings are a good place to welcome new personnel, make new friends, and even reunite with old ones. Networking is the key in building the camaraderie amongst fellow NCOs'. But our primary focus is our Airman. As NCOs' and first line supervisors, one of our many charges is to mentor Airman. The Network 5/6 is committed in doing so by working with FTAC in facilitating leadership seminars for the First Four, as well as sitting on supervisor panels for newly assigned Airmen during their two weeks of FTAC."
