Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Andersen First Responders Rescue Hiker Published April 20, 2025 By Andersen AFB Fire Department Press Release 36th Wing ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Rescue emergencies are uncommon within our jurisdiction; however, the Andersen Fire Department maintains a ready posture to deliver exceptional emergency response and patient care across all types of incidents. Our personnel responded to a situation that transitioned from a medical emergency to a rescue operation. Upon arrival to the scene, crews were guided 300 feet down a steep slope from the summit of Tarague Overlook. After evaluating the patient, it was determined that the patient was in no condition to ascend the cliff. Chief Manglona served as Command and Control recognizing the need to shift from a medical response to a rescue operation. Additional units from Fire Station 3 were dispatched to enhance rescue capabilities and manpower. Units from Fire Stations 1 and 3, alongside Advanced Life Support stabilized the patient and navigated the challenging and uneven terrain for transport to the hospital. Ultimately, the emergency response resulted in a successful rescue operation and full recovery of the patient. This incident underscored the effectiveness of our training within the operations section, solidifying our rescue capabilities. We are exceptionally proud of our rookie firefighters; despite their limited experience, Airman Kelley and Airman Harkelroad proved to be pivotal in this operation. We take great pride in our team's commitment in fulfilling their duty to serve.
