The 36th Wing Safety Office and 36th Security Forces Squadron implemented a joint program called "Get Caught Doing it Right" April 7.

The program targets school-age children who properly utilize required safety gear and provides an incentive for kids doing it right.

Once a child has been "caught," program officials such as safety personnel, security forces personnel or first sergeants present the child with an immediate prize coupon from the program.

"The coupons are redeemable for various items throughout the Army and Air Force Exchange Service," said Master Sgt. Joshua Fry, 36th Wing ground safety member. "The prizes are [for] things like [free] movie tickets, ice cream and video rentals."

The coupons also have entry forms attached to them. The entry forms can be filled out and taken to several facilities across the base such as the youth center, base exchange and commissary. The entry forms make a winner eligible for grand-prize drawings at the end of the school year.

According to Sergeant Fry, the program was initiated to get Andersen children to wear safety gear and wear it correctly.

"The program is to help them understand that safety gear is necessary because it can help them in the event that they do get hurt," Sergeant Fry said.

The "Get Caught Doing it Right" program will culminate in a Bicycle Rodeo scheduled for June 6 at the youth center parking lot which will kick off summer wheeled safety.

"The bicycle rodeo will feature seven safety stations, designed to ensure children know all aspects of safety while riding their bicycles," said Tech. Sgt. Michael Brown, 36th Security Forces Squadron NCOIC of police services.
