ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - A 36th Logistics Readiness Squadron member was recently honored when he received the senior noncommissioned officer of the quarter award.

Master Sgt. David Laun, 36th LRS fuels operation section chief, exhibits the traits of an exceptional Airman, earning him the distinction as one of Andersen's "Top Performers."

"I was surprised to have won with so many other hard-working Senior NCOs," Sergeant Laun said. "I am honored to have been nominated and to even win the honor of being named senior NCO of the quarter. I just go out there every day and do my job, but I didn't do it by myself. The Airmen I work with on a daily basis are the ones who helped me get where I am now. That's the [petroleum, oil and lubricants] way."

Sergeant Laun, a native to Maynard, Mass., has been in the U.S. Air Force for 18 years.

"I joined the Air Force because I wanted to do something for my country, but also [to have] the ability to travel and broaden my horizons." Sergeant Laun said.

And travel he did. Sergeant Laun has been to Iraq, Japan, Korea, Alaska and all over Europe. He said he has enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

Not only is Sergeant Laun pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management, he is also an avid volunteer. His main concentration of volunteering has been with the Kusinan Kamalen Karidat Soup Kitchen in Hagatna and the Airmen's Attic.

"We as senior NCOs lead from the front," Sergeant Laun said. "It is super important to be out there with our squadrons to make Andersen and the Guam community a better place."

Not only is he a great mentor off base but on base as well.

"As a mentor, we are training tomorrow's leaders teaching them to be professional Airmen. I won't be here all the time, and one day, they will be in charge, so we need to set the standards for them to exceed." Sergeant Laun said.

By keeping a perfect balance between his on- and off-duty activities, Sergeant Morrison has earned the respect of his peers and leaders.

"[Sergeant] Laun has earned the respect of his peers through action," said Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Patton, 36th LRS fuels manager. "From his flight duties as fuels operations section chief, Top 3 vice president or providing mentorship to [first-term Airmen, Sergeant] Laun works extremely hard to create an environment where people want to bring their best every day."
