Well team Andersen, another 101 Critical Days of Summer is upon us. The campaign will run from May 22 to Sept. 8.

During this period in 2008 the Air Force suffered 16 fatalities with one coming from the 36th Wing. The goal for us this summer, like last summer, is zero fatalities with little to no mishaps. We can do it folks; we just have to stay safety minded!

Since the 1960's, this campaign has run annually in efforts to combat the traditional increase in AF mishaps/fatalities, which occur during the summer months.

Now, many of you must be thinking "Its summer all year on Guam, so how will this campaign affect me?" We at the 36th Wing must ensure we continue exercising the slogan we preach so proudly - "I Can Save My Own Life." Continue to take responsibility for yourselves and co-workers, keep your family safe and make informed decisions.

Risk increases exponentially during the summer months regardless of the region, and keep in mind approximately 90 percent of AF fatalities occur off-duty, with the vast majority involving motor vehicles.

Over the next 15 weeks, information will be dispersed via Wing Safety, individual units and other various media outlets on a variety of topics covering traffic safety, water safety, off-duty recreation and summer sports.

During these 101 Critical Days of Summer, we must make it a point to set aside some time each day to discuss/embrace the many facets of safety, while continually focusing on personal risk management and the wingman concept.

Let us stand fast once again during this time and remind all onlookers why we are always "Prepared to Prevail." It is in our control, so please be safe, enjoy the summer and remember ...You Can Save Your Own Life.
