36th CPTS SNCO earns ‘Top Performer’ honors

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  When new leaders take charge within an office, there's usually a moment of transition between the regimes and it may take time for change to be noticed. A senior NCO from the 36th Comptroller Squadron has jumped head-first into her leadership role, leaving a positive mark on her Airmen and meriting her selection as 'Top Performer' by Senior Master Sgt. Karl Bradford, 36th CPTS superintendent and first sergeant.

During a 17-year career spanning three continents and more than half a dozen bases, Master Sgt. Pam Binnie, 36th CPTS chief of financial services , arrived here in September and has already been making a statement within her shop.

"As you may know, we now [fall under] the Financial Services Center in [Ellsworth AFB, S.D.] and we've had a lot of challenges during that process," Sergeant Bradford said. "Sergeant Binnie came from the FSC and she brought a wealth of experience and knowledge. [Those two items] coupled with her leadership has helped her excel."

In the financial services section, Sergeant Binnie manages a team of nearly half-dozen finance technicians, providing Team Andersen members assistance with military and travel pay issues. Her experiences from her Ellsworth assignment have not only assisted her office as a whole, but her guidance to individual Airmen helps prepare them for what to expect.

"She brings that outstanding leadership and mentorship, and she's a great example for our Airmen to follow," Sergeant Bradford said. "One of our guys now is actually [scheduled to PCS] to Ellsworth in February. She's brought him along quite a bit."

When she's not passing along the power of knowledge, she's focusing on building her own. She has completed her Community College of the Air Force degree and is currently working on course 14 of her professional correspondence course required to progress in rank. Her ultimate goal is a bachelor's degree in business management and a civilian job at the FSC.

Sergeant Binnie insisted her selection as 'Top Performer' wouldn't have been possible without her staff of talented Airmen.

"I'm not sure if I deserve it as much as my Airmen do," Sergeant Binnie said. "They work long hours and they work really hard for me. I was very lucky to fall into a shop with responsible troops who work really hard and don't need a whole lot of guidance to complete our mission."
