Boy, Cub Scouts conduct food drive Published Dec. 3, 2009 By Senior Airman Shane Dunaway 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Ten adult leaders, Boy Scouts from Troop 20 and Cub Scouts from Pack 20 collected more than 1,700 assorted food items during their annual Scouting for Food drive held Nov. 14 at the commissary here. The scouts donated the food items to the local Salvation Army where they will be used to help feed over 1,000 people in need. This was the scouts' third annual food drive for the local community. During the past year, the scouts also volunteered in the Memorial Day Flag Retirement Ceremony and painted fire hydrants on base. Additionally, the scouts participated in the Guam Island-Wide Cleanup for the local community. "It's important to instill educational and outdoor skills to scouts so they can better serve our community," said Tech. Sgt. Stephen Richards, scoutmaster for Troop 20. During the food drive, Team Andersen members graciously donated money to assist with the drive. The scouts spent a portion of the money on more food items and donated the rest to Operation Warm Heart, the first sergeants' program of Airmen helping Airmen.
