36th WG/CCC retires after 30 years

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  After 30 years of memories, missions and mentorship, Chief Master Sgt. Saniford D. "Bud" Andree, Jr., 36th Wing command chief master sergeant said goodbye to Team Andersen during his retirement ceremony held at the Sunrise Conference Center here Jan. 8.

The ceremony was the first of three events to celebrate Chief Andree's career. A golf tournament was held during the day and a retirement dinner was held at the SCC.

The Aberdeen, S.D., native entered the Air Force in May 1980. Chief Andree's farewell tour here capped a 30-year career that spanned nine states and three continents. His highly decorated career includes Distinguished Honor Graduate of the Air Base Ground Defense Security Police Academy, three-time First Sergeant of the Year award winner and two-time Lance P. Sijan U.S. Air Force Leadership award winner.

"It's very difficult to take 30 years and sum it up in a 30-minute ceremony," said Brig. Gen. Phil Ruhlman, 36th Wing commander. "This is an opportunity to recognize the great achievements of Chief Andree."

During the ceremony, numerous letters from friends and family were read to honor and commemorate Chief Andree's legacy. The 200-member crowd witnessed a slideshow presentation chronicling Chief Andree's journey through life. Chief Andree was also presented the Meritorious Service Medal, the sixth of his career, and the Guam Commendation Medal.

His final assignment was not without its challenges from the Raider 21 tragedy to the implementation of Joint Region Marianas. During his time, Chief Andree provided direct counsel and guidance to the wing and vice commanders; five group commanders; 25 squadron commanders and 12 wing staff directorates. Chief Andree praised General Ruhlman for allowing him to autonomously fulfill his duties as command chief.

"My biggest regret I have was not saying 'Thank You' enough," Chief Andree said. "If I could turn back the hands of time, I'd do it more and I'd say it every day."

Chief Andree will venture on into the next chapter of his life with his wife, Jennifer and son, Lance.
