Team Andersen to welcome National Drug Take Back April 28 Published April 22, 2012 By Senior Airman Veronica McMahon 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Members of Team Andersen will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted or unused prescription drugs in a safe and appropriate environment during the National Drug Take Back Initiative April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Andersen will provide two medication drop-off sites for individuals who already have base access. One collection site will be at the entrance of the Andersen Exchange, and the second collection site will be at the commissary. "This is important because prescription drug abuse is growing in homes," said Capt. Rebekah Mooney, 36th Medical Support Squadron Pharmacy Services officer in charge. "The point is to get prescription medications out of the house and out of the hands of children." The initiative is designed to raise awareness and increase education about prescription drug abuse, an issue that often goes unrecognized. Being a success in the past, this is the third drug take back Guam has hosted since 2010. "It is important people lock up their medications and dispose of them properly," Captain Mooney said. "This will give people a chance to come by and drop off the medications in large bins where the process is anonymous." There will also be other drop-off locations such as the second floor of the Micronesia Mall, the first floor of the Agana Shopping Center and the Navy Base Guam Navy Exchange food court. Prescription and over the counter solid dosage medications such as tablets and capsules will be accepted. However, intra-venous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted; illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative.
