ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - The 36th Civil Engineer Squadron hosted a Rookie Book Academy at Andersen Air Force Base Guam, Feb. 6, 2025.

The course was designed for first-term Airmen to mark off on-the-job firefighter training taskers without interrupting daily operations.

The Fire Protection Specialists Indoctrination course takes a minimum of 12 weeks complete. However, the 36 CES has taken the course and consolidated it into an eight-week training they call “Rookie Book Academy.”

This fast-track method includes a self-paced study portion and maximizes hands-on and classroom trainings.

“We currently have 16 first-term Airmen and one Reserve member from Hawaii within the program,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Phillip Crews, 36 CES station captain. “Today, we will be conducting the live fire training along with the [36] CES senior enlisted leader and fire operations A shift.”

There are a total of 213 items that the students must accomplish to finish the course. The hands-on live fire training portion alone signs off 26 line items.

“We can see a big difference in the Airmen as they hone their skills and gain the confidence to execute their missions,” said Staff Sgt. Andre Martin, 36 CES lead firefighter.

The 36 CES plans to continue hosting this course as they receive first-term Airmen.
