Slingstone 24-4: Major Accident Response Exercise (MARE) Published Oct. 22, 2024 By Staff Sgt. Pedro Tenorio 36th Wing ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Continuing Operational Readiness Exercise Slingstone 24-4's goal of improving the capabilities and readiness of the Airmen of the Forward Edge, a Major Accident Response Exercise (MARE) was conducted to test and review our First Responders, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, Wing Safety and Mortuary Affairs Airmen. The scenario for this MARE was a simulated plane crash, with the Andersen Air Force Base Fire Department Firefighters handling the plane fire as well as helping 36th Medical Group paramedics provide first aid and the transfer of simulated injured passengers. 36th Security Forces members and Wing Safety were also there to secure the site of the accident, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal Airmen and 36th Force Support Squadron mortuary affairs oversaw their specialized procedures. The ORE continues to keep Andersen Airmen on their toes with unexpected "injects" designed to differ from the normal procedures and test critical thinking that is crucial in real world scenarios. Should there be accidents like the simulation above or a malicious attack, Andersen AFB and its Airmen are committed to continue honing their skills to be ready for any situation.
