Fresh start for the Guam High School Football Program Published Sept. 26, 2024 By Airman 1st Class Allon Lapaix 36th Wing ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam – The Panthers are looking to capitalize on their strengths with the new coaches and players that have been added this season to the Guam High School Football Program at Naval Hospital, Guam, Sept. 25, 2024. Master Sgt. David Hannon, 36th Wing Equal Opportunity superintendent, along with other military members and retirees with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy, are joining the Guam High School Football Program this season to help coach the players. Having new faces added to a team comes with challenges of its own. Having newer players gaining more experience to catch up to returning players, preparing the team with new positions being filled and getting the team united are just some of the challenges that teams face when gaining new players. “We only have a couple of seniors and four juniors as returning players,” said Hannon. “Our team is mostly new guys who don’t have any experience in playing football, so we have work to do. We’re doing well on our conditioning and these guys have a lot of drive which is really good.” Coaches are important to a sports team because they guide and motivate players to do their best to achieve their goals. Giving players insight on how the sport is played and where they can improve are ways coaches contribute to a team. “My goal for this team is simple,” said Hannon. “To take this team to the championship and win. I want these guys to make it as far as they can and keep this program going.”
