Team Andersen celebrates Red Ribbon week; “life is your journey, travel drug-free” Published Oct. 25, 2018 By Airman 1st Class Phillip Guadiana-Gomez 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Team Andersen celebrated the annual National Red Ribbon week Oct. 23 to 31, 2018. “This week is to raise awareness of the deaths and destruction caused by drugs,” said Andre Johnson, 36th Wing drug demand reduction program manager. “We are also teaching the dangers of drug misuse and the preventative measures to stay drug-free.” While investigating and battling illegal drug activity in Mexico, Drug Enforcement Agency Special Agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was abducted and killed in 1985. In his memory, family and friends wore red satin badges sparking the beginning of the Red Ribbon Campaign. “The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and community,” explained Johnson. “This attributes to the Wing’s mission and readiness by promoting a healthy lifestyle, heightening awareness of substance abuse issues on Andersen Air Force Base, and keeping a drug-free U.S. Air Force to support global reach and global power for the U.S.” For more information on drug prevention, visit https://www.drugabuse.gov/
