ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Airmen celebrated their peers during the Maintenance Professional of the Year ceremony March 4 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
The annual MPOY ceremony recognized more than 40 nominees and award winners for their accomplishments in multiple maintenance career fields.
“I am really happy to have won,” said Senior Airman Brendan McCormick, 36th Maintenance Squadron aircraft structural maintenance journeyman, who earned the MPOY award for the Airman tier. “It's an honor to be recognized and I'm thankful for my leadership taking the time to put me in for the award in the first place.”
McCormick was recognized for identifying and fixing more than 120 structural deficiencies on RQ-4 Global Hawk and B-52 Stratofortress aircraft, enabling aircrews to conduct at least 300 more missions. He was also recognized at the Pacific Air Force level for his achievements.
As one of the organizers of the event, Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Shaver, 36th MXG wing weapons manager, said the Airmen are at the core of every mission .
“It’s a tremendous opportunity to be a part of a program that allows us to celebrate the achievements of our Airmen,” Shaver said. “There is maintenance and support behind every aircraft, whether it be fixing something or loading it with munitions. This has been a great opportunity to highlight the Airmen that are behind all of that.”
