Chief Master Sgt. Chad Caden, the chief enlisted manager with the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, was able to go hiking in South Carolina in July 2017, nearly 7 months after receiving an amputation on his right leg. After years of pain, Caden was diagnosed with Osteonecrosis in his right foot, which caused a loss of blood flow to his foot and resulting in bone decay. Caden received his amputation on Dec. 27, 2016 to get rid of the pain, minimize the chance of the bone disease spreading, and increase his chance of returning to an active lifestyle. Mental health readiness Good mental health critical to readiness
Mental health is a critical part of every Airman’s medical readiness. Although many service members worry that seeking mental health care will negatively effect their career, the opposite is usually true. With early identification and the right treatment by a medical professional, most mental health issues get better quickly without any negative career impact.

Take command with TRICARE changes Take command with TRICARE changes: Enrollments shifting from fiscal to calendar year starting in January 2018
Starting Jan. 1, 2018, cost changes for TRICARE benefits transition from a fiscal year period to a calendar year period. Changing from fiscal year (Oct. 1 – Sept. 30) to calendar year (Jan. 1 – Dec. 31) makes the TRICARE benefit consistent with civilian health plans. The change will largely affect those plans which have an enrollment fee and are currently billed by the fiscal year.
