Part of being in the military could be time away from loved ones during the holiday season. To remind Airmen here that they are thought of during this time of year, Team Andersen comes together to provide dorm residents and deployers a taste of the holidays through morsels of sugary goodness.

Volunteers from Team Andersen are conducting a cookie drive here Dec. 10, 5-7 p.m., and Dec. 11, 6-9 a.m., at the 36th Medical Clinic.

"My husband was deployed last year during the holidays, and I understand that it could be a lonely time for a lot of people," said Christina Miller, Airmen Cookie Drive coordinator. "We've got a lot of people here that are thousands of miles away from their families. This is a way Team Andersen acknowledges the single and deployed Airmen and let them know we care."

Volunteers are encouraged to donate different varieties of the bite sized pastry. Along with assorted kinds of cookies, brownies, baked rice treats and bar cookies are also accepted.

Cookies that are burnt, crumbly or decorated with gel icing will not be included in the sorting and packaging process.

"What we do is place all the cookies on the table, and volunteers pick 12 different kinds to place in a container," said Miller. "The crumbly cookies tend to break during the packaging process, and the gel icing tends to stick to the plastic bags. With the right types of cookies, we can easily sort and pack them in bags decorated by the elementary school students on base."
