Team Andersen will celebrate Women's Equality Day at the High Tides Bar and Lounge 5-8:30 p.m., Aug. 29th, on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

The event marks the observance's 94th anniversary and serves as a tribute to women based on women's right to vote. Women from the 36th Wing will perform skits, poetry and more.

"During this event, we are hoping to get the word out to people who may not know the background behind women's suffrage and what we went through to get where we are now," said Tech. Sgt. Rosemarie Tamba, 36th Force Support Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of the dining facility. "We have some amazing women lined up to perform; it's going to be a great event and we hope to get as many people to come out as possible."

Throughout the event, women from countries to including New Zealand, the Philippines and the United States will express themselves through their culture by spoken word, dance and presentations. Staff Sgt. Erica Dorval, 36th Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner, has specifically chosen a poem that she believes will reach the audience with a deeper meaning as to why she believes all women hold equal power.

"I will be reciting a poem by Maya Angelou titled "Phenomenal Women" this is one of my favorite poems that highlights today's powerful women," said Dorval. "This is a well-known poem and I want the audience to be able to connect and understand Angelou's words and the true meaning behind it."

Currently, the Women's Equality Day program is a base event being supported by various organizations.

"I am thankful for the support we are receiving from the organizations around the base," Tamba said. "We couldn't have made any of this possible without all the support; we want everyone to come see how much work and dedication is being put into the event."

All members with base access are welcome to attend the event.
